A few mindful minutes, done the same way every day. This is how to use your wood and brass gua sha.
What it is, and where it works
A handcrafted gua sha in wood and brass. The brass edge is the working side — it warms to the touch as you use it — and the wood gives you something solid to hold.
It is made for the jawline, the cheeks and the neck. Not for the delicate skin right under the eyes; that belongs to a smaller, rounder tool.
The tool comes on its own, with an oil, or with an oil and a gift box, depending on which package you chose.
- Clean skin, then oil. The brass needs slip — on dry skin it will drag.
- Sit in front of a mirror the first few times, so you can see the angle you are holding.
- Patch test the oil before the first full use if your skin is sensitive.
The ritual, step by step
- Apply a few drops of oil to clean skin and press it in.
- Start at the jawline. Lay the brass edge flat against the skin and glide gently upward and outward, from the chin toward the ear.
- Move to the cheeks. Same motion: from the center of the face outward and slightly up, toward the temple.
- Finish at the neck, working downward, toward the collarbone.
Direction and pressure
Gentle pressure and slow, upward strokes. The tool is not meant to press hard or to be dragged back and forth — one direction, then lift, then start again. Consistency does more here than force.
How often
Daily, as part of your skincare ritual — morning or evening, whichever you will actually keep. A few minutes is enough.
Which oil to pair it with
Any of the nine botanical infusions works; they share one jojoba and camellia base and contain no essential oils. For an evening face ritual, Rose Radiance or Neroli Serenity sit well. For sensitive skin, Calendula Glow.
Refills: the Botanical Multi-Use Ritual Elixir, 1 fl oz (30 ml).
- Wipe the tool with a soft, dry cloth after each use.
- If you have used oil, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap — then dry it immediately.
- Do not soak it. The wood should never stand in water.
- Store it dry. Brass darkens slowly with time and handling; that patina is normal and does not affect how the tool works.
- Keep the pressure gentle. If the skin goes red and stays red, you are pressing too hard.
- Skip any area where the skin is broken, irritated or sunburned.
- Patch test the oil first if your skin is sensitive.
- This is a self-care ritual, not a treatment. If you have a skin condition or any concern, a dermatologist is the right person to ask.
